  • John Davis (Morgan State) — two-time NCAA Div II National Champion, Most Outstanding Wrestler 1984, invited to compete in the Div I tournament that same year.
  • Greg Veal (Morgan State) — Div II National Champion, invited to wrestle in the Div I tournament in 1983.
  • Haig Brown (Norfolk State) and John Davis (Morgan State) are four-time Division II All Americans. Brown won the NCAA Div II tournament (126) as a freshman at Portland State, placed 3rd as a sophomore, transferred to Norfolk State and placed 3rd at 134 in 1990, then later returned to Portland State and won again at 150.
  • Donnell Rawls (Winston-Salem State) — NCAA Div II National Champion at 118. After WSSU dropped the program in 1990-91, he transferred to Appalachian State, placed 4th at the Div I tournament, was ranked #3 in the world, and competed in the Olympic Trials.
  • Morgan State placed in the top 10 at the NCAA Div II Championships from 1980–1984.
  • Barber-Scotia had a wrestling program through 1988.
  • Arkansas Baptist competes in the NJCAA; Florida A&M and Allen University compete in the NCWA.
